An Apostille is the authentication of a public officials
signature for documents that will be used outside of the United States of
America. The Country of the documents destination determines whether the
authentication is an Apostille or Certification.

The Hague Convention of 1961 created a
system of "legalizing" documents for universal recognition by the
nations who are part of the Convention, therefore an Apostille is
used and recognized by the member nations for acceptance of
International documents. Nations that are not a part of the Hague
convention may still recognize an Apostille or a Certification for
use of the international document in their Country, but the final
determination is made by the Country of destination and the
Secretary of States office. A list of Countries that participate in
the Hague Convention are listed here Countries. |
