AMED/ANUR 2103 AROMATHERAPY - 1 Semester hour The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA) defines aromatherapy as “the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of the body, mind, and spirit. It is an art and science which seeks to explore the physiological, psychological, and spiritual realm of the individual’s response to aromatic extracts as well as to observe and enhance the individual’s innate healing process. Student will look at various extracts and their affects on the human recipient. Such herbs as Lavender (Lavendula officinalis) one of the best known herbs in Aromatherapy and Herbal Medicine is a key topic of study. Essential oils made from many of these extracts are highly concentrated, extremely aromatic and usually possess a sweet floral or earthy herbaceous odor. In most cases these extracts are placed a few drops at a time on a cotton ball or in a diffuser to allow them to serve as an effective room deodorizer. Many extracts have been shown to kill fungi, viruses, and bacteria. 22 lessons, 4 sample testing experiences, 1 term paper, 3 written exams |
